“It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Whatever it is, if you want to launch a Hawaii sourced/grown food product, reach out for our support.”

Food As Medicine

Ola Farmacy

The Ola Farmacy Project successfully links the underserved in Hawaii to the rich, robust healthy world of good food, community programming and education. Program elements incorporate the concept of "Food as Medicine":

·        Working with local healthcare providers to reach at risk families with health issues impacted by diet and providing a referral for food prescriptions:

Enrolled Ola Farmacy members picking up 10-12 pounds of fresh produce and 8 lbs. of island fish, venison, and beef for 15 weeks, at Palolo Food Hub and other multiple distribution sites;

  • Clients and their families receiving nutrition education and cooking classes supported by community partners and;

  • Produce being distributed to Members grown by local Hawaii State small and emerging farmers.

  • Main (1st)  Food hub located in Palolo (a food desert)

  • Connecting the Ahupua’a of Palolo

The Ola Farmacy Project has created and established a system based on relationships that create a successful link between farm viability, and public health - weaving together the educational and cultural experiences that only a culturally aware, people centered, place-based programming can provide.

The Ola Farmacy Project began in the first Quarter 2023 under the diligent and generous direction of Ignacio Fleishour, now Managing Founding Director for Ola Farmacy Project. The program has continued to sustain itself through sales of products and donations from Makana Provisions food products within the Hawaii community. We are looking for additional new national, state and local funders, private donors, and community partnerships.

Founded by Ignacio Fleishour, but directed by his grandfather’s teachings and elders’ guidance from Native American teachers, healers and voices of Native cultural practitioners from Arizona, New Mexico, Montana, Mexico, Peru, Chile, Australia, New Zealand, and Hawaii.

In the words of Stands In the Shadow Bear; the best medicine for you is the one closest to you, whether that is food or herbal medicines quite often when we are connected to the land we find that even the seemingly weeds growing in our backyards can serve as medicine and sustenance.

Molokai Deer in Wild.png

Molokai, Hawaii

Working with Molokai Wildlife Management we have removed 10,000 invasive axis deer and turned them into favored delicacy foods around the islands and served in top restaurants. We have also turned deer into jerky and it is available at stores and online. We are currently working with schools and non-profits making our venison jerky available for fundraisers.

Albizia.png

Manoa Valley, Hawaii

Working with the Living Life Source Foundation in conjuction with the Board of Water Supply and the Albizia Project, we are supporting the removal of dangerous invasive Albizia trees and flora while replacing the invasives with native and endemic foods and medicines. We also clean and care for the streams and natural springs in the area. We are working with elders and cultural practitioners following cultural protocals and providing foods for their projects and efforts. Once finished, this project and area will be a place for food, medicine and education about our watershed and the history and legends of place will be shared with the community.

Living Life Source Foundation is leading the efforts in restoring the historical fishponds at Pearl Harbor. We support them through donations and food to keep the efforts growing and moving forward. This fishpond will once again feed the community and the healing between place, community and reconciliation with the military have been a blessing for both locals and visitors.
